Duplicate Presentations on Prostate Cancer at American Urological …

We determined the rate of duplicate research presentations at recent American Urological Association and European Urological Association annual meetings. We cross-referenced all clinical research presentations related to prostate cancer presented at the 2006 American Urological Association and European Urological Association annual meetings with those presented at the corresponding annual meetings in 2005 2006 and 2007 using a defined search strategy based on author names abstract titles study design and objectives. All data abstraction was performed in duplicate by 2 independent reviewers to ensure accuracy. We identified 282 and 312 abstracts on prostate cancer clinical research at the 2006 European Urological Association and American Urological Association annual meetings respectively. The overall duplication rate of American Urological Association abstracts was 19.

Doctors Accused of Performing Vasectomy on Wrong Patient

The man who has not been identified filed a complaint with the country’s National Board of Health and Welfare following the incident on June 22 the Swedish paper The Local reported. In the complaint the man claims the staff at the urology and gynecology clinic did not double check his identity prior to the procedure and ultimately confused it with a vasectomy scheduled for the next day. The man said he was only scheduled to have a biopsy on his prostate. The health agency is now trying to determine if the clinic should face any sanctions according to the newspaper.

Michael Simmons 44 gave an informative seminar concerning urology during the weekly Scottsboro Rotary Club meeting Wednesday at Western Sizzlin restaurant. Simmons a local urologist said he and other physicians in the field focus primarily on the health of the urinary tracts of males and females as well as the treatment of kidney stones and prostate problems. After a brief presentation on the different aspects of urology Simmons stressed the importance of regular check-ups especially for men nearing the age of 50. With about forty men present at the meeting Simmons said “Six of you here will have prostate cancer in your lifetime. “Statistically one in six men will be stricken with prostate cancer in their lifetime Simmons said and early detection is key.

We hypothesized that in patients with T2N0 stage disease at transurethral bladder tumor resection a lower residual cancer stage (P1N0 or less) at radical cystectomy may correlate with improved outcomes relative to those with residual P2N0 disease. We analyzed 208 patients with T2N0 stage disease at transurethral bladder tumor resection whose tumors were organ confined at radical cystectomy (P2 or lower pN0). None received perioperative chemotherapy. Kaplan-Meier as well as univariable and multivariable Cox regression models addressed the effect of residual pT stage at radical cystectomy on recurrence and cancer specific mortality rates.
